Thanks again to everyone who joined the kick-off workshop on 25 June (around twenty participants). The committee has compiled the discussion, the collaborative board and the chat into six candidate themes, each now open as its own topic in this category:
- What does, and should, “open source” mean in EU law (CRA, AI Act, Data Act, tenders)?
- Funding sovereignty: public money / public code, mutualisation and virtuous public-private models
- The cultural problem: mindsets, procurement and the people who say “no” in public administration
- Sovereign by design vs the global commons: nationality, lock-in and export control
- Open source in the AI age: open weights vs open source AI, training data, and the community
- From control to capacity to govern: addressing open source’s own weaknesses
Other topics raised on the board (open standards and interoperability, open science and open data, the EU Stack, cloud supply chains, an EU FLOSS enterprises directory, training, and more) can absolutely become threads of their own: feel free to open them.
Each thread ends with the same invitation: add your references, counter-points and cases, ideally by end of September 2026, and let us know if you are willing to act as rapporteur on a theme towards the in-person event in Barcelona in November 2026 (date and venue to be announced soon).
